Abstract:
The Swift gamma-ray burst satellite is an excellent facility for
studying novae. Its rapid response time and sensitive X-ray detector
provides an unparalleled opportunity to investigate the previously
poorly sampled evolution of novae in the X-ray regime. This paper
presents Swift observations of 52 Galactic/Magellanic Cloud novae. We
included the X-Ray Telescope (0.3-10keV) instrument count rates and
the UltraViolet and Optical Telescope (1700-8000Å) filter
photometry. Also included in the analysis are the publicly available
pointed observations of 10 additional novae the X-ray archives. This
is the largest X-ray sample of Galactic/Magellanic Cloud novae yet
assembled and consists of 26 novae with Super Soft X-ray emission, 19
from Swift observations.
Description:
Table 1 presents the primary characteristics of all the
Galactic/Magellanic Cloud novae with pointed X-ray observations prior
to 2010 July 31. In addition to the Swift data, the sample includes
all the publicly available pointed observations from the ROSAT, XMM,
Chandra, BeppoSAX, RXTE, and ASCA archives.

Note (1): For X-ray bright novae some observation datasets were split between
the PC and WT modes and their individual results are provided.
Note (2): The first observation of V5579 Sgr, ID 00031198001, is likely
contaminated by optical loading and thus is only an upper limit.
Note (3): Where H=1.0-10keV band and S=0.3-1.0keV band.
Note (4): The hardness ratio is negative when the background-subtracted
hard or soft band count rate is negative, e.g. more counts in the
chosen background than in the source region.
