Abstract:
We present 3.6, 4.5, 5.8 and 8.0um photometry and mapping for 58
compact HII regions identified using the Spitzer Galactic Legacy
Infrared Midplane Survey Extraordinaire (GLIMPSE). These are used to
investigate trends in the colours, magnitudes and structures of the
sources, together with spatial variations in flux ratio. It is
concluded that most of the sources are remarkably similar, and have
comparable variations in flux ratio as a function of position within
the shells, together with very narrowly defined ranges of colour
index.
Description:
We have surveyed the entire GLIMPSE Atlas for likely compact HII
regions (see Benjamin et al., 2003PASP..115..953B 2003PASP..115..953B for the seminal
article on this Atlas). Specifically, the GLIMPSE team has provided
individual, and slightly overlapping images of the ATLAS for each IRAC
band, and for ranges of Δl=1.1° in galactic longitude, and
Δb=0.8° in galactic latitude, leading to a total of 1344
plates for the four bands combined [the high resolution
