Abstract:
We present the first large sample of metal absorption systems in pairs
of QSOs with sightlines separated by about 1Mpc at z=2. We found
690 absorption systems in the spectra of 310 QSOs in 170 pairings.
Most systems show CIV or MgII absorption.
Description:
We use spectra of the 310 QSOs which include 140 pairs and 10
triplets. We use spectra that we obtained with LRIS on the Keck I
telescope, the Kast spectrograph on the Lick 3-m Shane telescope and
from CTIO and KPNO. We also use spectra from the SDSS data release 5
(DR5). We obtained spectra with LRIS from 2001 to 2004 September.

Note (1): We give 5 decimal places for the redshifts of the coincident
absorption systems, and 4 decimals for most other absorbers.
Note (2): # indicates significantly blended absorption line.
Note (3): Abbreviations used:
EA = emission-absorption coincident absorbers are close to the
emission redshift of the partner QSO, with -0.005<DzEA<0.005
EAV = coincident absorbers (V for velocity) are like EA coincidences
but with have vEA<1000km/s and |DzEA|>0.005
AA = absorption-absorption) coincident systems have a partner in the
paired QSO with -0.005<DzAA<0.005
AAV = coincident systems (V for velocity) have vAA<1000km/s but
|DvAA|>0.005
AAA = associated absorber-absorber coincident systems have
|vAA|<1000km/s and one or both absorbers at vabs<3000km/s
from their QSO
