Multi-epoch, wide-field images collected with the Very Large Telescope/Visible Multiobject Spectrograph camera allowed us to detect 638 variable stars (630 RR Lyrae stars and eight anomalous Cepheids), 475 of which are new detections. We present a full catalogue of periods, amplitudes and mean magnitudes. Description: The analysis of variable stars in the Cetus dSph galaxy presented in this paper is based on data collected in service mode using the VIMOS camera mounted on the VLT (ESO program 081.D-0775, P.I.: E.J. Bernard). The images were acquired during six nights between 2008 July 27 and August 8.
