Abstract:
A large set of deep, near-IR, objective-prism plates taken along the
southern Galactic plane was searched for cool supergiants and carbon
stars. Accurate coordinates and charts for 759 carbon stars in two
Galactic longitude sectors within 7.5° of the plane,
248°<l<288° and 320°<l<341°, are given, including 289
stars not previously published. Many of the new and known stars are
found in the IRAS, DENIS, and 2MASS point-source catalogs. The 2MASS
colors and the longitude distribution of cool carbon stars are
discussed briefly.
Description:
The plates for this survey were taken with the Curtis-Schmidt
telescope of the University of Michigan at CTIO over many years
starting in the 1970s. The list was revisited in 2009 by B. Skiff,
with improved coordinates and cross-identifications.

Note on v2009.dat: this version shows improved coordinates, identifications
and remarks for the stars in the original list. 7 stars were not found
(see Note (G1) below), and one was found to be double.

USNO-B1.0 (Cat. I/284) (sometimes B+R/2 from both catalogues), and
ASAS-3 (Cat. II/264). Magnitudes are given in whole- of half-
magnitude increments either if the star is strongly variable, or if
the magnitude itself is simply uncertain (mostly for the fainter stars)
