VII/216 H-α emission regions in Southern Milky Way (Rodgers+ 1960)
A catalogue of H-α emission regions in the Southern Milky Way

ADC_Keywords: Nebulae ; H II regions
Description:
The Catalogue of Rodgers, Cambell, and Whiteoak (RCW), was the result
of a survey of emission nebulae carried out at Mt. Stromlo Observatory
from December 1957 to April 1959. The entire region of the Milky Way
southward of the Palomar sky survey with a latitude of plus or minus
15 degrees of the galactic equator was photographed in the light of
hydrogen alpha with comparison plates obtained in yellow light. This
work roughly complements the Sharpless (Sh2, see Cat. VII/20) survey
published in 1959.

Note to the electronic version (by Raymond Bruton, ):
The purpose of this version of the RCW Catalogue is a computer
readable file for the plotting of star charts. No more modern data was
incorporated into the data table. Typographical errors should be
brought to the attention of the editor. Any gross errors in the
original publication should likewise be reported. The editor
gratefully acknowledges the original work of Rodgers, Cambell, and
Whiteoak under the direction of the late Bart J. Bok. The NASA
Astrophysics Data System maintained at Harvard University was
indispensable for checking against the original work. The Royal
Astronomcal Society of the United Kingdom is thanked for making the
copyrighted original available to the NASA Astrophysics Data System
and indirectly to the editor.

It is a pleasure to thank Raymond Bruton, Fort Worth, Texas (USA)
(e-mail ) who prepared the catalogue and kindly
forwarded it to CDS in May 2000.
