ADC_Keywords: Radio sources ; Radio continuum Description: The observations for the MDS1 were made in Sep. 1973 over a period of 16 days, and consist of drift scans with the telescope set to one declination number (-20 and -62°) during the transit of the RA range of the survey, and scanning a long narrow strip of sky. The MDS2 results from observations made in 1978 with the same telescope working at its maximum sensitivity File Summary: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FileName Lrecl Records Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ReadMe 80 . VIII/15) M = source fitted manually (not found by the source fitting program) Note (3): Notes numbered as follows: 1 = Extended in both right ascension and declination 2 = Extension primarily in right ascension 3 = Extension primarily in declination 4 = Probably extended, but integrated flux density not used (see Section 3b(ii)) 5 = Flux density obtained manually from the line scans (see Section 3b(iv)) 6 = Position given is an approximate centroid for two close peaks which are not resolved, by the criterion of Section 3b(i) 7 = Position obtained manually from the line scans 8 = Integrated flux density includes a small unresolved source 9 = Uncertainties in position and flux density increased due to variation in background level 10 = Sources 1646-201 and 1647-200 appear to be connected by a low level bridge, or to have a third source between them 11 = Declination obtained manually from the line scans 12 = Integrated flux density includes a small unresolved source. The position given is that of the stronger component 13 = Position obtained manually from contour map 14 = Possibly extended, but integrated flux density not used. (Extension less significant than for Note 4) 15 = Very close to another catalogued source, but still resolved (see Section 3b(i)) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: mds2.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 9 A9 --- MDS2 Source identification from B1950 position (HHMM+DDdA) 11- 12 I2 h RAh Right Ascension B1950 (hours) 13- 14 I2 min RAm Right Ascension B1950 (minutes) 15- 18 F4.1 s RAs Right Ascension B1950 (seconds) 20- 22 F3.1 s e_RAs r.m.s. error on RA 23 A1 --- n_RAs [+] extended source along RA (G1) 25 A1 --- DE- Declination B1950 (sign) 26- 27 I2 deg DEd Declination B1950 (degrees) 28- 29 I2 arcmin DEm Declination B1950 (minutes) 30- 31 I2 arcsec DEs Declination B1950 (seconds) 33- 34 I2 arcsec e_DEs error on Declination 35 A1 --- n_DEs [+] extended source along Dec (G1) 37- 39 I3 mJy S408 Flux density at 408MHz 42- 43 I2 mJy e_S408 r.m.s. error on S408 44 A1 --- f_S408 [+] extended source (G1) 46- 70 A25 --- Notes Remarks about source (2) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note (2): the remarks use the abbreviations: MDS1 = source catalogued in MDS1 (table "mds1.dat") OOTY = source catalogued in Ooty lists: Subrahmanya and Gopal-krishna (1979MmASI...1....2S 1979MmASI...1....2S), Venkatakrishna and Swarup (1979MmASI...1...25V 1979MmASI...1...25V), Joshi and Singal (1980MmASI...1...49J 1980MmASI...1...49J) Q = source is a confirmed QSO D(pa,r) = source with a nearby component. The uncatalogued weaker component is 'r' arcmin distant at position angle 'pa' (°) E(pa) = source extended along "pa" position angle (°) CPX = source is part of a complex of sources. * = source fitted less that 4 times : = sources in the RA range 11:00 to 17:20 and observed on 1978-04-16, an observation badly affected by unsteady ionospheric conditions and rejected. EDGE = source close to the edge of the survey m = sources not seen on the MDS2 maps. These sources have been found 4 times by the source fitting program but do not appear on the maps. They are all weak and may be slightly extended. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Global Notes: Note (G1): the '+' indicates that the error should be increased due to source extension History: From H.
