Description:
This catalogue was created based on the original published catalogue
in the article by Westerhout G., 1958, Bull. Astron. Inst. Netherlands,
vol.14, p.215, "A Survey of the Continuous Radiation from the Galactic
System at a Frequency of 1390 Mc/s."
His article describes the results of a survey of the radiation
along the galactic ridge and a search for discrete sources.
The observations were made with the 25-m radio telescope at Dwingeloo,
which has a beamwidth of 0.57 degree at a frequency of 1390 Mc/s.
The catalogue contains positions of 82 discrete sources.
The epoch for positions in the original published catalogue was 1957.0.
Positions referred to 2000.0 are shown in this machine-readable catalogue.

W 82 : This source number is listed but no position is given for it in the
original Westerhout's catalogue. Thus, it is neglected in this machine-
readable catalogue.
Note on m_W:
m_W describes distinguishable sources which are included in some of
Westerhout's objects. See "notes.dat" file.

Historical Notes:
* 15-Sep-1999: This catalogue was created by Junko Takahashi and Masatoshi
Ohishi at the Astronomical Data Analysis Center, National Astronomical
Observatory of Japan, based on the original published catalogue by
Westerhout G., 1958, Bull. Astron. Inst. Netherlands, vol.14, p.215,
"A Survey of the Continuous Radiation from the Galactic System
at a Frequency of 1390 Mc/s."
* 3-Nov-1999: Supplemental data about distinguishable sources which are
included in the original Westerhout's objects were added.
* 22-Feb-2000: "ReadMe" file is rewritten, and "notes" file is created by
K.Nakajima.

Acknowledgments:
Takahashi and Ohishi are grateful to Dr. Mitsuru Soma for his codes
for the coordinate conversion.
They also wish to thank all members at the Astronomical Data Center,
National Astronomical Observatory of Japan for their cooperation.
