Beginning of ReadMe : I/141 Yale Zone Catalogues Integrated (Yale Univ 1939-1983; ADC 1989) ================================================================================ Yale Zone Catalogues - Integrated Version Yale University <Trans. Astron. Obs., Yale Univ. 11-32 (1939-1983) (see Source References)> ================================================================================ ADC_Keywords: Positional data ; Proper motions Description: The various volumes of the Yale Zone Catalogues have been combined into a single, homogeneous, machine-readable volume, sorted by position, containing the information common to most of the volumes. Additional data are provided in separate files. The notes have been transcribed into a machine-readable form. Errors detected in the course of the preparation of the catalogue, as well as previously known errors, have been corrected, and supplementary data have been added. Introduction: In the late 1920s Yale University Observatory started to photograph the sky in large fields to determine positions and proper motions for stars in the Astronomische Gesellschaft (AG) zones. Most of the sky has now been measured and the positions and proper motions published in various volumes of the Transactions of the Yale University Observatory. Because the preparation of these volumes extended over a 44-year period, the format and the contents changed with the time. Hence, it appeared desirable for the ADC to create a single, uniform catalog that would contain most of the information and could be accessed by right ascension as well as by declination. Most of the printed volumes are arranged by AG number. These numbers are retained with the addition of a two-letter abbreviation to indicate the AG volume from which the number is taken. Because some stars lack an AG number, a running number also has been added for each volume and it is the running number, preceded by the volume number, which is used for references to notes and other tables and files. The remaining volumes, in the far south, retain their original running numbers. Source References: Schlesinger, F., and Barney, I. 1939, Catalogue of 8101 Stars, -10 to -14 deg, Trans. Astron. Obs.
